About the GeCHI Overlay

The GeCHI Overlay offers a repository of Gentoo ebuilds made by GeCHI members and third party peoples. The scope is to cover all projects sponsored by the GeCHI and making them easily available throught Gentoo portage.

Introduction

This page will show you how to install the GeCHI Overlay into your Gentoo Box. Keep in mind that the overlay provide ebuilds that are currently not in the Portage tree.

The ebuilds provided are not always in perfect condition and may break things, so please use at your own risk.

If you do have troubles with an ebuild provided by the GeCHI Overlay, please take it up with the ebuild provider and not with the good people at gentoo.

NEVER report bugs at bugs.gentoo.org for these ebuilds, please use the proper sourceforge bug tracker.

1. layman installation.

In order to manage the overlay, the package app-portage/layman must be installed into your local Gentoo Box:

# emerge -av app-portage/layman
# echo "source /usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf" >> /etc/make.conf

2. add gechi overlay.

Now it's time to download/update the GeCHI Overlay.

# layman -f -o http://gechi-overlay.sf.net/layman.xml -a gechi
